Getting Back in Touch With God

Over the last couple of years, I have noticed a decline in my commitment to my faith. Not because I no longer believe the words and ideas that were taught to me when I was younger. No, simply because I have made other things more of a priority in my life. High school, college, and thoughts of how to plan for the future have grown to become more important to me than my relationship with Christ. Don't get me wrong, my education and future are very important! But when did my commitment to trust in God's plan for my life fall away and my foolish thoughts that I could control the world and my future become my thought process?

That is what accepting Christ into your heart is all about, isn't it? The trust that maybe He has a plan that is far greater than anything you can control, create, or even imagine. It means having a friendship beyond compare. Having someone always on your side, and not just anyone, but the Lord Christ. And if that isn't awesome, then I don't know what is!

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

My DIY Halloween Costume

With Halloween right around the corner, potential costumes and party plans are on everyone's minds it seems. Because let's face it, everyone likes to play dress up every once in a while! Whether its dressing in your Sunday best for a big event or getting a bit (or a lot, depending on how big you go) more creative when October rolls around. To quote Kate Spade, "Playing dress up begins at age five and never truly ends."

In the true spirit (get it, spirit) of things, my friends and I went to sort of a "pre-Halloween" Halloween party last week. And since I still find it hard to believe its October due to the sheer lack of fall whether in Florida, I had to come up with a rather last minute costume idea! After scouring Pinterest, I had an idea: Maleficent.

But of course, I don't have Angelina Jolie style Maleficent horns, so, I DIYed my own!

I first took a paper towel tube and cut it in half. You could easily use two toilet paper tubes, this is just what I had on hand. I then just shaped them by pinching them into the shape of Maleficent's horns.

I then just cut slits into the sides so that I could attach them to a black headband that I already owned.

Wrap some masking tape around the horns to keep them in that shape and color the tape black and voila! Quick and easy DIY costume.

I curled my hair and pined half of it back around the headband, added some Maleficent style makeup and a floor length black dress and I was ready to go! My friend Celeste dressed up as Aurora and the guys went as mad scientists! It really was a fun night!

Back in the Swing of Things

Holy Cow!

I am back at school and the first couple weeks have been crazy! Between classes, homework, my clubs that I am a part of, working on the upcoming play, and hanging out with my friends, I have been a busy bee! It really is nice to be back at school though, not as big of a fan of the massive pile of homework that I know is coming my way, but I love the overall experience of being back on campus!

.

I love my adorable planner system, and it's a must for me to keep track of everything that I need to get done throughout the week.

..

Textbooks on textbooks on textbooks!

..

My class binders and a couple of my favorite books alongside.

These first couple weeks of school have been a blast! Hectic, yes, but fun none-the-less! And I think that I am finally back in the swing of things here at school.

A Big "Hello"!

Hello! This is Miss Liss, a blog about, well, me!

But more than just me, this blog is going to be a collection of thoughts and experiences of my life.

I am currently going into my sophomore year of college and boy will I have a lot on my plate this year! Between classes, my extracurriculars, and spending time with my fantastic friends, I am going to be busy! But that makes me all the more excited. Being born and raised in the midwest, I'm a long way away from home when I'm at school in beautiful, sunny Florida.

As a Marine Biology major in college, I love getting to interact and learn about marine life. So, I was in heaven getting to swim and play with this loving sea lion named Remo while in St. Thomas a year back! He was such a sweetheart and gave me a big kiss!

I am so excited to begin another chapter in my life journey and to be able to share it with you!
